I recently had a set of Grabber ATs fitted to my Disco3 by AJS after my OEM Pirellis expired with 30k miles. I wanted long life tyres that could cope with road, offroad and winter. I've just returned from a 500mile shooting trip to Wales and the tyres were fantastic under all conditions - motorways, A roads and especially offroad. The car returned 29mpg over this period but what I really noticed was how sure footed the car felt and the huge improvement in turn in.

I'd strongly recommend these tyres to friends.

Subject: General Grabber AT tyres  

Dear Andy,

Please see attached a photograph of one of the General Grabber AT tyres you kindly fitted to our Freelander last December.  The tyres performed brilliantly for me in the snow taking the Freelander safely up and down the steep icy snowy hilly roads in and around High Wycombe where other 4X4 vehicles were failing!  The tyre seems to perform well on mud and for normal road use too so all in all I think they are great tyres.  The car also seems very shore footed with these tyres fitted and this is the reason for us requesting a quotation from you for our consideration to put a set on my wife’s Landrover Discovery 3.

Hi Andy,

I just wanted to say thank you organising tyres for my van. As you know we needed to order the tyres well in advance because of the load rating required for a van with a constant load of nearly 3.5 tonnes. But they arrived in plenty of time for the winter snow and proved invaluable, as I didn’t miss any work at all throughout the snow in November and December.

The tyres were fantastic, with great grip in snow and ice, giving me confidence to go out and work with no fear of getting stuck, unlike last year!

Just a quick mention for my wife’s car too. You fitted some Ovation winter tyres, they were great, getting her home at times when others were getting stuck! She was very unsure after last year when the tyres were rubbish in the snow and ice, but these Ovation tyres were good, even I was impressed when I had to use her car a couple of times.

Subject: Wintrac Xtremes as requested

Hello Andy,

Last week I promised to send you my thoughts and reactions to the Wintrac 4 Xtreme tyres I purchased on a set of 17" wheels for my Freelander 2 from you a couple of months ago.    Here they are:

Immediate reaction on leaving AJS was in three main areas:

• These new tyres are extremely quiet!   My old 235/60 R18 Goodyear Wrangler HP (original fitment) had always seemed quiet, but the Vredesteins are virtually silent from within the vehicle, at any speed.

• Handling seemed sharper straight away, whether because of the extra 2lb/sqinch in each, or whether my Wranglers which were close to needing replacement anyway had just got vague I don't know.

• The ride was better than I had expected.   Immediately potholes and ruts were much less noticeable and road surface changes were much less marked.

The next day the snow started to fall:

• Snow performance is outstanding - grip just keeps happening.

• Grip on icy roads is almost as good as snow - it's possible to break the friction by being stupid, but grip can usually be regained very easily.

Longer term my opinion remains very high indeed for winter use for these tyres.   The silence has actually been commented on by others.  Road temperatures have been stubbornly below the 7 or 8 degrees centigrade which Vredestein claim this tyre's rubber is best suited for, and if it hasn't been icy it has been wet - very good adhesion in the wet too!   Obviously they are not replacements for studded tyres on ice but a sensible driver will be able to keep going in much worse conditions then anyone would expect who is unaware of the capability of these tyres.  Handling and ride also appear much improved on the old Wranglers.

I'm looking forward to changing back to my old tyres, only to wear them out so I can come and get another recommendation from you for their replacements for summer use!

Re. Vredestein Wintrac 4 Extreme 235/65 x 17

Just a brief note to say how pleased I have been with the Vredesteins that you supplied, along with the standard Freelander GS alloys.

You fitted them for me at the end of November, so they have been on the car a couple of months now, through the very heavy snow we had before Xmas. I was actually out in the car in near blizzard conditions, on the day that most of the snow fell here in Oxfordshire. The car and tyres have performed brilliantly – never faltered or seemed anything other than sure-footed. It is difficult to accurately compare the winter tyres with the standard M&S ones without doing a back-to-back in the same conditions, but even on the packed snow and ice the ABS only kicked in under the worst provocation, while I had noticed it much more on the standard tyres.

It is my first experience of winter tyres and I am totally convinced!

Subject: Wintrac 4 Extreme's on a D3

A quick thank you to you and your team for a great job swapping the factory fit Scorpions for Vredestein Wintrac 4 Xtreme's last April. Having used the factory fit tyres in last winters snow I can now say what a difference the new tyre has been this year. It has made an already reliable vehicle even better. Being a member of the emergency services I have to be able to get to work (and more importantly home) whatever the weather and these tyre have been sure footed in the snow before Christmas and I have had them on all year with a 1500 mile trip to the highlands of Scotland in May. It's a great improvement in the ride and the handling in the wet gives great confidence.

A great price and excellent service from a knowledgeable company all the members on disco3.co.uk were right to recommend you.
